Multiple ways to flip your party onto your living-room TV, depending on your gear. Works in 2 taps for most people, and we've got a plan B if it stalls.
📺 Got a Chromecast (or a TV box with Chromecast built in)?
Easiest case by far. Most recent TV boxes have Chromecast built in: Google TV / Chromecast with Google TV, NVIDIA Shield, Mi Box, Fire TV, Comcast Xfinity Flex, plus carrier boxes like Bouygues Bbox 4K, Freebox Pop, Orange TV (recent), SFR TV 8.
- Open your room on AperoRoom (web or installed PWA).
- Tap the 📺 Cast button at the top right of the player.
- Pick your TV from the list — the video jumps over instantly, your phone/PC becomes the remote.
As long as your PC/phone and your TV box are on the same Wi-Fi, the TV shows up in the Cast list. That's the standard YouTube/Netflix Cast experience.
🛡️ Cast button shows no TV at all?
If your TV doesn't appear even though it's on the same Wi-Fi, it's almost always an antivirus or firewall blocking Chromecast device discovery (mDNS protocol).
🛡️ Avast / AVG blocks Chromecast discovery
Avast blocks the network scan that lets Chrome find Chromecast devices by default. Fix: open Avast → Protection → Wi-Fi Inspector → temporarily disable OR add Chrome to exceptions. Restart Chrome after. Your TV will show up in the Cast list.
🔥 Windows / Mac firewall blocks mDNS
Windows Defender or macOS firewall may block mDNS ports (UDP 5353). Windows: Windows Security → Firewall → Allow an app → check Chrome (Public + Private). Mac: Preferences → Security → Firewall → allow Chrome.
📡 Wi-Fi network with client isolation (common in restaurants / hotels)
Some routers (or public Wi-Fi) enable a client isolation option that prevents devices on the same network from seeing each other. Fix: in your router admin (often 192.168.1.1), disable « Wi-Fi isolation » or « AP Isolation ». Rare in home Wi-Fi, common in bars/hotels.
📶 2.4 GHz vs 5 GHz Wi-Fi: split networks
If your router broadcasts 2 separate Wi-Fi networks (one 2.4 GHz, one 5 GHz, with different names), make sure your PC/phone AND your TV are on the SAME network. Otherwise they can't see each other.
🔌 Your TV has no Chromecast (Samsung, LG, Hisense, etc.)?
This is the case for most Samsung/LG/Hisense Smart TVs under 5 years old, which run their own system (Tizen, WebOS, VIDAA). No native Chromecast, so the Cast button will have no target to offer. But 3 workarounds all work fine:
Buy a Chromecast ($35)
The Google Chromecast HD (~$35) or Chromecast with Google TV (~$60) plugs into any TV via HDMI. Once set up, it shows up as a standard Cast target. Recommended for both home parties and bars.
PC + HDMI direct
Plug your PC or laptop into the TV via HDMI. Launch AperoRoom on the PC, full screen (F11). Your remote becomes your phone (scan the room QR code). Most reliable solution, zero latency.
Phone Screen Mirroring (Samsung Smart View / iOS AirPlay)
On Samsung, LG etc., you can mirror your phone's entire screen to the TV via Smart View / Screen Mirroring. Open AperoRoom on your phone, start the mirror, enjoy. Less clean than Cast (image is compressed) but works everywhere without extra hardware.
